Ahh Spring, the season of new beginnings, Spring cleans and the opportunity for a fresh start. We’ve all made resolutions in January only to have forgotten them by now. There’s a bit of a resurgence around Lent for some - I personally don’t like the giving up part, I’d much prefer to begin something. But Lent only lasts so long, then you’ve done the challenge and you can go back to whatever it was you were giving up on. I don’t like the idea of giving up things as a goal, I much prefer towards motivation than away from motivation. It sticks better, it’s much more positive and it feels less like a punishment and much more optimistic.

If starting that something ultimately means moving away from other things then that’s fine – saying I’ll start eating healthier is a move away from gorging on chocolate and cheese so it’s ‘just’ semantics isn’t it? But it’s not ‘just’ semantics… the words we use, how we talk is a reflection of how we feel and how we feel is what we do and what we do is who we are.

The semantics are incredibly important. So this Spring, what is the goal? By when? And what is the first step you’re taking today?
